Southern Mountain Yellow-Legged Frogs
Southern Mountain Yellow-Legged frogs are a unique species of frog that can only be found in the San Bernardino Mountains. Unfortunately, this species has been listed as endangered since 2020, with less than 200 of them left in the wild. Habitat destruction, climate change, and the introduction of non-native species have been identified as the biggest threats to their survival.
Habitat destruction is a significant issue for the Southern Mountain Yellow-Legged frog, as it requires clean water and rocky streams to survive. However, human activities such as logging, mining, and urbanization have destroyed much of its natural habitat.
The introduction of non-native species, especially predatory fish and bullfrogs has also had a devastating impact on the Southern Mountain Yellow-Legged frog population. These non-native species carry diseases that can be deadly to the frogs and also compete with them for resources.
